A front garden’s character is determined by elements, arrangements and functions. The elements are the various physical things that together make up its facilities, appearance and qualities. Arrangements determine how all the elements fit together. Function describes what we expect the garden to achieve.

ELEMENTS  can be sorted into four groups:

1) paving the surfacing of the ground

2) enclosures walls, fences and hedges that mark the boundaries

3) plants trees, shrubs and other living elements

4) facilities things that have a special purpose such as bin enclosures or plant containers

You will find a range of possibilities in the drop-down menus for each of these headings and in the links above
